In Egyptian mythology, Septu was a god of war and the eastern direction. Some of his titles were "Lord of the East" and "Sharp of Teeth". He was the star god who guarded the borders of Egypt from invaders. According to the Pyramid Texts, Septu protected the teeth of the deceased. He was also thought to guard the Egyptian turquoise mines. Sopedu was depicted as a crouching falcon, or as a man with two falcon's feathers on his head, wearing a shemset girdle and carrying a long axe.
In the Middle Kingdom, he was associated with Horus; in the New Kingdom, this association led to his being called Har-Septu.
Also transliterated as Sopd, Sopdu or Sopedu.
